Which size, honestly

Volume is printed on the box. How much you actually drink from it is not. A 16 oz mug holds about 12 oz of coffee once the lid is on, and a 40 oz bottle is a jug you carry with two fingers. Nobody publishes the room temperature, the fill level or the lid position behind numbers like these, so read them as a comparison between our own pieces rather than a promise about your commute.

After you buy: washing, gaskets and the coffee smell

A vacuum wall does not care what you put in it. The lid does. Most of the range is dishwasher safe by the maker's own statement, gaskets come out of the lids that have them, and the smell people complain about is almost always a gasket rather than steel.

What Ideus is for

There is a shelf in this category priced like jewellery and a shelf priced like a takeaway cup. Most people want the thing in between: real vacuum insulation, a lid that behaves, and a colour they are glad to see on the desk every morning. That middle is where the Ideus lineup sits.

The range grew from one mug. A 16 oz mug with a handle and a press-in lid, in colours with names rather than numbers, Avocado Green, Sakura Pink, Storm Black, Fuji Dawn. It turned out that the colour was the reason people picked it, and the handle was the reason they kept it. Tumblers followed for the car, then bottles for the day, then the carafe for the table, then a stein because someone asked.

The awkward part of the story is the lids, and there is no point hiding it: a sliding cover on a press-in lid is not a seal, and our description for that mug says so in plain words. Rather than let the argument play out one disappointed review at a time, we put the three lid types on the front page with a verdict against each piece, in the maker's wording, dated. It costs us the word leak-proof on the mug. It saves somebody a soaked bag.

It's alright but I'd get a different one next time
I've been using this bottle for a few weeks. It's pretty good quality except it will leak if the top is not screwed on perfectly and it's remarkably easy to screw it on wrong. I also ordered the yellow and orange gradient and it turned out to be orange and red.

Our answer. The maker states this lid is leak-proof, and a lid that seals depends on a silicone ring seated flat and a thread taken all the way home. The care page has the two-minute check; if it still weeps on its side, that is a fault rather than the design.

Disappointed!!!
I purchased this thermal carafe in November 2025. This is my second one, and I’m disappointed that it only keeps coffee hot for about 1–2 hours. I always pour in freshly brewed hot coffee and make sure the lid is closed properly, but it still loses heat quickly. I expected much better insulation from a vacuum thermal carafe. It looks nice, but it doesn’t perform as advertised.

Our answer. The maker states up to 12 hours hot for this piece, and this site prints that as the maker's figure rather than a test of ours. One or two hours is far below it, and the usual causes are a part-full vessel and a cold start: two minutes of boiling water tipped out before filling changes the first hour more than anything else. If it happens with a full, preheated vessel, that is a fault rather than the design, and it is a return.

Is Ideus drinkware leak-proof?

It depends on the piece, and the honest answer needs the piece named. The straw tumblers and the bottles are the ones whose descriptions state the lid is leak-proof and that you can put the drink in a bag. The 16 oz mug and the 20 oz tumbler are not: their product page describes a splash-proof sliding cover and says in plain words that it is not leak-proof. The lid table gives the verdict for every piece, in the maker's own wording.

How long does a drink actually stay hot?

The maker states up to 6 hours hot and 12 hours cold for the mug and the tumbler, up to 24 hours for the 40 oz bottle, and 12 hours hot with 24 hours cold for the 68 oz carafe. Those are its figures, read from the descriptions, not measurements of ours. They assume a full vessel and a closed lid, and a mug drunk from at a desk with the hatch open will not reach them.

Is it dishwasher safe?

The maker states dishwasher safety for the mug, the tumbler and the carafe. For the rest our description does not say, and we are not going to turn silence into a yes. Whatever the piece, take the silicone ring out of the lid first and put it back seated flat: a ring that goes back twisted is the usual reason a lid that used to hold starts to seep.

How much coffee does the 16 oz mug really hold?

About twelve ounces once the lid is pressed in. Sixteen is the volume of the vessel to the brim, and the lid takes up room. That is a mug of coffee by any normal measure, but it is not sixteen ounces of coffee, and it is the single thing most worth knowing before you buy this piece.

Will a tumbler fit my car cup holder?

The tumblers are the pieces the maker itself describes as cup-holder friendly, so they are the ones to start with. We cannot promise a fit, because no product page of ours publishes a base diameter, and cup holders vary by three quarters of an inch between cars. There is a printable ring on the cup-holder page so you can measure your own in thirty seconds, that is a firmer answer than any number we could quote.

What is the body made of, and is it BPA-free?

The descriptions state SUS304, also written 18/8, food-grade stainless steel for the body, and food-grade silicone for the lids, described as BPA-free, on the bottle and the carafe as 100% BPA-free. Those are our own statements about the material, and the wording is the wording we publish.

Can I put a fizzy drink in it?

Not in a sealed one. A leak-proof lid on a carbonated drink turns the vessel into a pressure vessel, and opening it later is messy at best. A splash-proof lid vents, so it is the safer option, but the carbonation will still go flat faster in a wide vessel. Nothing in this range is designed or described as a pressure-rated bottle.

Does the paint chip?

The coloured pieces are powder-coated, which is tough against everyday knocks and unhappy about abrasives and hard drops. Scouring pads dull it. A tiled kitchen floor beats it. Washing by hand with a soft cloth is the difference between a two-year finish and a five-year one.
